Upgrade of New House

Nick and his wife Micky (Michaela) bought a new house in Derbyshire. The house was virtually fully built when they decided to buy it, so it was too late to have anything other than the standard wiring installed.

Ben Addison Ltd. undertook a complete rewire of the lighting circuits, installed comprehensive network cabling and laid the cables in readiness for later installation of a Comfort home automation system.

Preparation

Ben Addison Ltd. viewed the property before it was occupied, to gain an understanding of the layout and the likely approach to the work. Alongside this, Nick and Micky did a lot of planning - deciding exactly what was to go where and how things should work. This meant that work could start as soon as the property became available.

Details of Work

All lighting circuits were replaced with point-to-point connections to a C-Bus control panel located in the garage. At least two computer network cables were installed to each room, all connected to a patch panel, again in the garage. The use of standard "Category 5" cable meant that the network was not just useful for computers. For example, Nick and Micky can now watch Sky TV in the bedroom although they still only have one Sky box. Nick and Micky also have some Squeezebox MP3 players which allow then to listen to music which is all stored on a server in the garage - no more lost CDs! Cables were routed to the side of each window to allow the later addition of electric blinds and curtains. C-Bus controlled lighting circuits were provided outside the house at the front and rear, to make addition of any outside lighting in the future a little easier.
